Experts in depopulation and territorial revitalisation head up the FiturNext 2024 programme

Francesc Boya Alós, Secretary General for the Demographic Challenge, Blanca Pérez-Sauquillo, Deputy Director General for Marketing at Turespaña, and Ana Abade, Public Affairs Manager Spain & Portugal at Booking.com, are some of the speakers who will participate in this fourth edition.

MADRID – FiturNext, the FITUR Observatory dedicated to promoting good tourism practices in terms of sustainability, has announced some of the speakers who will form part of the programme for the next edition, dedicated to how tourism can contribute to alleviating depopulation and revitalising territories, to be held from 24 to 28 Januaryat the Madrid International Tourism Trade Fair organized by IFEMA MADRID.

 In addition to the awards ceremony for the winning initiatives of the FiturNext 2024 Challenge, the Observatory has organised a four-day agenda with presentations, conferences, round tables and even a university workshop focusing on tourism that is committed to rural areas and their revitalisation, among other work themes.

Commitment to depopulation: these are the confirmed speakers

Renowned experts on how tourism can contribute to alleviating depopulation from a perspective that promotes endogenous resources and the local community are the first speakers confirmed for the FiturNext 2024 agenda.

Among them, the following stand out: Francesc Boya Alós, Secretary General for the Demographic Challenge, Blanca Pérez-Sauquillo, Deputy Director General for Marketing at Turespaña, Ana Abade, Public Affairs Manager Spain & Portugal at Booking.com, Jesús Alique, Commissioner for the Demographic Challenge of Castilla – La Mancha, and Enrique Martínez Martín, President of Segittur.

Boya has a long political career working in the Catalan Parliament and the Spanish Parliament with a focus on ecological transition. Pérez-Sauquillo stands out for her experience in tourism destinations and international tourism cooperation. Abade is a consultant specialising in the digital sector and public affairs, while Alique was named ‘Personality of the Year’ by the Official Association of Telecommunications Engineers for his contribution to tackling depopulation in order to generate access to opportunities. Finally, Martínez stands out for his commitment to innovation in tourism destinations and the implementation of Big Data and tourism intelligence.

24 January will mark the start of this year with the highlight of the edition: the awards ceremony for the winning projects of the 2024 Challenge, dedicated to how tourism can contribute to the revitalisation of the territories. Genalguacil (Museum Village), Recartografías and Camino del Cid were the winning initiatives this year.
