ICAO addresses COP28 high-level Roundtable on Energy transition
Through the Framework, ICAO and its Member States strive to achieve a collective global aspirational Vision to reduce international aviation CO2 emissions by 5 per cent by 2030, through use of aviation cleaner energies, such as Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and Lower Carbon Aviation Fuels (LCAF).
MONTREAL and DUBAI – ICAO addressed the COP28 Presidency Roundtable on Energy transition this past weekend in Dubai where it informed the leaders in attendance on the outcome of the recently concluded third ICAO Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3), particularly the adoption of an ICAO Global Framework for Aviation Cleaner Energies.
“The adoption of this Framework sends a clear signal to the international community on the continued leadership of ICAO in addressing emissions from international aviation. ICAO remains fully committed in leading the sector’s efforts towards supporting the temperature goal of the Paris Agreement,” expressed ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano in his remarks to the high-level meeting.
President Sciacchitano further explained to participants that the Framework outlines concrete steps to facilitate financing and provides clarity, consistency and predictability to governments, public and private investors, industry and fuel producers, on policies, regulations, implementation needs, and investments required to scale up the development, production and deployment of aviation cleaner energies.
